Mayor Arland Poindexter

Arland Poindexter was born in 1943 in Philadelphia and moved to Chesilhurst in 1969. After serving as a member of the town council for six years, Mr. Poindexter was elected mayor of Chesilhurst in 1986. He and his wife, Pricilla, have two sons.
Pleasant Harrison

Pleasant Harrison was born in Branchville, South Carolina and married Eddie Harrison in 1935. She purchased property in Chesilhurst in 1949. In 1961 she began to build her home-built almost entirely by herself-and completed it in 1963.
Reverend James Saylor
Chesilhurst, New Jersey, 1993

James Saylor was born in Ashville, North Carolina, and he moved to Chesilhurst in 1963. He became custodian of the Chesilhurst School in 1976 and has been pastor of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Weymouth, New Jersey, since 1989. Reverend Saylor is married with four children.
Tecolia Salters
West Atco, New Jersey, 1994

Tecolia Salters was born in Cross Anchor, South Carolina, and married Emanuel Salters in 1942. In 1959 they moved to this home, just outside Chesilhurst, with five acres cultivated as a produce and poultry farm. Although the Salters were employed, they continued to farm, and sold produce in Philadelphia on weekends. Mr. Salters died in April 1991.
