Trinity A.M.E. Church Gouldtown, New Jersey, 1993
In his 1913 book, Gouldtown: A Very Remarkable Settlement of Ancient Date, William Steward quotes Judge Lucius Elmer’s 1865 history of Cumberland County: "Gouldtown-partly in the Northern part of Fairfield, and partly in Bridgeton Townships-although never more than a settlement of mulattoes, principally bearing the names of Gould and Pierce, scattered over a considerable territory, is of quite ancient date."
