The images and text in this web site are the on-line
component of my project Small Towns, Black Lives.
This work is a record of my interest in the historically African
American communities of southern New Jersey. These pages contain
representations of my photographs, text, panoramic images and QuickTime
video. Small Towns, Black Lives is not
a historical resource, it is a visual journal of discovery, memory,
and recognition.
The current version of the web site is based on a previous site
called The Cemetery. The Cemetery site
went on-line in early 1995 and is now incorporated into Small
Towns, Black Lives as the community Port Republic.
An
exhibition catalog published by the Noyes Museum of Art with
essays by Charles Ashley Stainback, Deborah Willis, Stedman
Graham, and Clement Alexander Price is available
for purchase. Click cover image for more information.
